SUBJECT: Planning for Fall Semester
DATE: Thursday, April 23, 2020

I write today with a brief update on the College’s planning for fall semester.

After considering the modeling for COVID-19 spread in Minnesota and having a productive conversation with the Minnesota Department of Health earlier this week, the College is developing plans to deliver in-person, on-campus classes this fall if circumstances allow. As we move toward offering an on-campus Gustavus learning experience, we are also preparing for the likelihood that the College will need to consider modifications to our usual academic course schedule and practices.

To that end, faculty leadership is preparing modifications to the class scheduling grid and fall 2020 course schedules. To allow time for these modifications to be finalized, the College is delaying the fall 2020 course registration period for returning students. Fall 2020 registration for students will now take place from May 10 through May 19.

Students, please watch for an email from the Registrar’s Office with your new registration time.

Faculty, more details about this planning will be provided to you by the Faculty Senate and Academic Operations Committee (AOC) leadership and the Provost’s Office in forthcoming Faculty-l and department chair emails.

This continues to be a time of great change that calls for thoughtful deliberation and careful planning. Thank you for your continued engagement, patience, and goodwill as we move forward together.

Yours in community,

President Bergman
