COVID-19 Weekly Update: April 23, 2021

TO: The Gustavus Community

FROM: COVID-19 Response Leadership Team

SUBJECT: COVID-19 Weekly Update

DATE: April 23, 2021

WEEKLY TIP

The Commencement ceremony for the Class of 2021 will take place on Thursday, May 13 at 10:30 a.m. In addition, the Commencement ceremony for the Class of 2020 will be on Sunday, May 16 at 2 p.m. This week, many questions from our seniors and their families focused on why we decided to have the celebration indoors.

The ceremonies will happen in the Lund Forum. This location was selected because it ensures the ceremonies will happen as planned, under COVID safety precautions, without the worry of weather-related changes or interruptions. The Forum is a large enough space to accommodate six (6) feet of physical distancing and appropriate air flow.

Due to COVID-19 public health guidance and concern about current case numbers in Minnesota, the on-campus ceremony will be open only to members of each graduating class. No on- or off-campus guests, including parents, grandparents, friends, significant others, or other Gustavus students, will be allowed at the ceremonies. Faculty representatives from each department will attend. Otherwise, only employees who are working the events may attend.

The ceremonies will be livestreamed online at the Gustavus commencement website.
